Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a corneal abrasion, and this is the third day. My eye is still red, watery, and sensitive to light. It feels a little better than the first day, but it's still uncomfortable. Is this normal? How long should it take to heal, and should I be worried about an infection?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

You should visit an ophthalmologist to assess the type and severity of the corneal abrasion. While most minor abrasions heal within a few days, persistent discomfort, redness, or light sensitivity could indicate complications such as infection or deeper damage. Avoid rubbing your eye, use lubricating drops as recommended, and protect your eye from further irritation. If you experience worsening pain, vision changes, or discharge, seek urgent medical attention.

Thanks
