Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a question about a loved one who was recently in a coma due to a head injury. After the injury, doctors decided to perform surgery. Surprisingly, he woke up from the coma after about two days. Now, he is showing some signs of agitation, he tries to remove the tubes that are helping with his medication and care, and he doesn’t seem to recognize people around him. I’m very worried and would like to know: Is it possible for him to fully recover and return to normal? What should we expect in terms of his mental and physical condition? Please explain if there is hope for him to get better.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

After a serious head injury and surgery, it’s common for patients to feel confused and agitated as they wake up, especially with tubes and medical equipment attached. This is part of the recovery process. It can take time for the brain to heal, and recognizing people may improve gradually. While full recovery depends on the injury’s severity, many patients do get better with proper care and rehabilitation. It’s important to follow the medical team’s guidance and give him time to heal.

Thanks
