Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Is it safe to combine yeast infection pills with antidepressants? I'm on 10mg escitalopram and 150mg bupropion daily for depression, and I took a one-time 150mg dose of fluconazole for the yeast infection (5 hours after the other medications). Should I be concerned about drug interactions? What are the signs of potential issues, and will they resolve on their own with a single dose of fluconazole, or should I seek medical advice?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

First of all, I must emphasize the importance of informing your doctor if you are taking any chronic medication. Interference between substances can occur, especially when a new medication alters your metabolism and uses the same pathway in your body to achieve its intended effect.

However, there's no need to worry. In your case, both medications you are using, bupropion and escitalopram, do not significantly influence fluconazole. There should be no relevant interference when you take them together. So, you can be reassured that there should be no undesirable interactions between the medicines you are currently taking!

Thanks
