Hello Doctor,
I'm a 38-year-old female, and since Sunday night, I've been experiencing burning pain in my stomach area, which has now spread throughout my entire abdomen. I've also been feeling a lot of gurgling in my stomach at times. The pain comes and goes, and it feels better when I lie down. I threw up today after drinking Gatorade, and it was mixed with bile. I haven't eaten anything today except for a little bit of Gatorade. Do you think I might have a stomach bug, or could this be something that requires medical attention? I haven't had a fever, but I did have some trouble with bowel movements. I was able to go today after taking Dulcolax. Should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on the symptoms you’ve described, it’s important to take this seriously. While it could be a stomach bug, the combination of symptoms you're experiencing, such as persistent abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, suggests that further evaluation is needed to rule out other potential causes.
2. I would recommend a pelvic-abdominal ultrasound and an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to get a clearer picture of what might be going on. These tests will help in diagnosing whether there’s an underlying issue in your digestive system or another condition that may require specific treatment.
3. In the meantime, if your symptoms worsen or if you experience any new symptoms, such as a high fever, intense pain, or dehydration, I would advise seeking immediate medical attention.
Thanks
