What Could Cause Lower Back and Abdominal Pain?

Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been dealing with severe pain in my lower back, especially on the right side, along with pain in my lower abdomen and the front right side. Initially, I thought it might be a urinary tract infection (UTI), so I treated it as such. However, during a recent visit to a urologist, she was certain it’s not a UTI and suggested further testing on my bladder. I suspect it might be a gynecological issue, and I’m wondering if you could provide any advice or guidance.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, it could be a gynecological issue, such as ovarian cysts or endometriosis, though bladder or kidney conditions might also cause similar pain. Since your urologist ruled out a UTI, I recommend seeing a gynecologist to explore potential reproductive system causes. In the meantime, over-the-counter pain relief like ibuprofen may help manage discomfort. I hope this helps, and I encourage you to follow up with a gynecologist for further evaluation.

Thanks
