Hello Doctor,
I tested negative for HBsAg and non-reactive for Anti-HIV, Anti-HB, and Hepatitis B three weeks ago. I also received my first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine. Yesterday, I tested positive for Hepatitis B with an ELISA test but negative on the HBsAg screening. My HBsAg value is 5.81, with a normal range being 1. I had diarrhea about three weeks ago and experienced abdominal discomfort, but recovered. However, a week ago, after several CT angiograms with contrast, I started experiencing gas-related issues again. I took medicine for three days on September 2nd and felt better. Could my high HBsAg value be related to that?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on your symptoms, including abdominal discomfort and the recent changes in your tests, a colonoscopy may indeed be necessary for a more thorough evaluation. This procedure will allow us to visually inspect your colon for any potential issues such as inflammation, infection, or other conditions that could be causing your symptoms. It’s especially important to rule out any gastrointestinal concerns that might be contributing to your ongoing issues.
2. However, we also need to further assess your Hepatitis B status and any potential liver involvement, so I would recommend discussing these findings with your primary care physician or a specialist in infectious diseases for comprehensive management.
Thanks
