Patient Question

Hello Doctor

Why did my partner test negative for STIs despite unprotected sex? I tested positive for chlamydia and herpes, and we previously had gonorrhea.

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Possible Causes:

Immune Response: Some individuals may have stronger immune systems, making them less susceptible to certain infections.

Testing Sensitivity: STI tests may vary in sensitivity, potentially leading to false-negative results, especially if the infection is in its early stages.

2. Recommendations:

Treatment: Regardless of test results, both partners should seek treatment for any diagnosed STIs to prevent transmission and further complications.

Protected Sex: Until both partners have completed treatment and received confirmation of clearance from their healthcare provider, it's essential to practice safe sex to prevent reinfection or transmission to others.

Follow-Up Testing: Schedule follow-up testing after completing treatment to ensure clearance of the infections and discuss any further concerns with a healthcare professional.

Thanks
