Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was diagnosed with gonorrhea and took the prescribed oral medication, Ceftriaxone and Azithromycin as a one-time dose. It's been two days since I took the medication, and I'm wondering if it's safe to drink alcohol now. Will it affect the treatment or delay my recovery?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s best to avoid alcohol for at least 10-15 days after taking the medication. Alcohol can interfere with your body’s recovery and may also worsen side effects like nausea or dizziness. Additionally, giving your body time to heal completely helps ensure the treatment is fully effective. If you’re experiencing any symptoms or concerns, consider following up with a doctor.

Thanks
