Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently had a hysterectomy, and I've started experiencing itching and burning on the outside of my vagina. Is this normal after surgery, or should I be concerned? What could be causing these symptoms?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Itching and burning after a hysterectomy could be due to an infection, likely fungal or bacterial. It's important to get examined by a healthcare professional to determine the exact cause of the symptoms. Depending on the type of infection, specific treatment will be necessary. Additionally, if you're premenopausal, it’s also important to address any hormonal changes that could contribute to discomfort in that area. Please make sure to schedule a check-up for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Thanks
