Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had some blood work done a week ago, and the results showed that my HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec is high. What does that mean? Should I be concerned, and what steps should I take next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

An elevated HSV 1 IgG result means that you were previously infected with the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) at some point in the past. IgG is an antibody that your body produces in response to the virus, and once it's present, it typically indicates long-term immunity. This is not something new, and it suggests that your body has already dealt with the infection. In most cases, there's no cause for concern, but if you experience any symptoms like cold sores or other related issues, it’s a good idea to discuss with a doctor for proper guidance.

Thanks
