Hello Doctor,
Could my HSV (herpes simplex virus) infection pose a risk to my partner, who is immunocompromised due to past lymphoma treatment, if he were to contract it? I've had HSV for about ten years, with very few outbreaks and can't recall my last one.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Herpes Simplex Virus Transmission:
HSV-1 is typically transmitted through contact with oral secretions, sores, or surfaces around the mouth.
HSV-2 is primarily transmitted during sexual contact, involving the genital or anal areas.
Transmission to Genital Area:
HSV-1 can be transmitted to the genital area through oral-genital contact, causing genital herpes.
The greatest risk of transmission for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 is during active sores.
Risk to Immunocompromised Individuals:
Immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of experiencing more severe and potentially dangerous symptoms compared to those with a healthy immune system.
It's important to practice safe sex and take precautions to reduce the risk of transmission, especially during active outbreaks.
Thanks
