Hello Doctor,
I am 31 days late for my period, and I have an IUD but usually have regular cycles. I've taken a pregnancy test, and it was negative. Lately, I've been feeling dizzy, nauseous, and experiencing a lot of stomach cramps. Could this be related to my menstrual cycle, or should I be concerned about another health issue?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
You haven't mentioned how long you've had the IUD or the type you're using. It's important to get an ultrasound to check if the IUD is still in place and hasn't shifted, perforated, or caused an infection. Your symptoms, including dizziness, nausea, and stomach cramps, could be linked to the IUD, an underlying infection, or another health concern. You should see a doctor for a physical exam and further evaluation. If an infection is present, treatment with antibiotics may be necessary, and in some cases, removal of the IUD might be required. If perforation has occurred, a minor laparoscopic procedure may be needed to remove it. You may also need to consider an alternative form of contraception based on your doctor's recommendations.
Thanks
