Hello Doctor,
I’ve been struggling with a lot of phlegm lately, and it constantly feels like I’m choking on it. I’ve tried hot soups, steamy showers, and I'm taking my allergy meds regularly, but nothing seems to help much. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of it? It’s really uncomfortable, and I’m looking for relief!
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
I understand how uncomfortable it can be to deal with persistent phlegm.
Here are some steps that may help you find relief:
Use a Humidifier: Keeping the air in your home moist can prevent your throat and nasal passages from drying out, which often helps thin out the mucus.
Elevate Your Head While Sleeping: If possible, try to sleep with your head elevated. This can prevent mucus from pooling in the back of your throat, making it easier to breathe.
Avoid Irritants: Exposure to irritants like smoke, strong odors, and certain chemicals can increase mucus production. Staying clear of these can make a difference.
Try a Saline Nasal Spray: This can help loosen and clear mucus in the nasal passages, reducing that "choking" sensation.
Incorporate Garlic, Ginger, and Spicy Foods: These foods can naturally thin mucus and provide some relief.
Thanks
