Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been feeling extremely nauseous every morning for the past two weeks, although I'm not always throwing up. It's just this constant feeling of sickness. Additionally, I've noticed that for about a week now, I've been waking up between 3:20 and 3:30 a.m. almost every night, and I can't seem to fall back asleep. I'm wondering if I should take a pregnancy test or if something else might be going on. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, I would recommend taking a pregnancy test to rule that out as a possible cause of your symptoms. If the test is negative, the nausea and disrupted sleep could indicate something like gastritis, which is inflammation of the stomach lining. The treatment for gastritis would be different, focusing on medications to reduce stomach acid and avoid irritants. After completing the test, I suggest seeing a specialist, such as a gastroenterologist, for further evaluation and appropriate treatment based on the results.

Thanks
