Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a weird mix of pregnancy test results, and I'm not sure what to gather from them. I have an IUD, but I did have unprotected sex recently and am 14 days late, though my periods are normally very light with the IUD. On the 7th, I took two tests at the same time, and both were negative. Yesterday, around 5 PM, I took one, and it was positive, then one positive and one negative around 10:30 PM, and then two negatives this morning. I'm not sure what to make of this, as both positive results had very faint lines.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The best next step is to get a blood test to check for HCG levels, as this is a more reliable way to confirm pregnancy compared to home strip tests, which can sometimes produce false positives or negatives. Additionally, there are certain risks associated with pregnancy and an IUD, such as ectopic pregnancy, which may also lead to confusing results. I recommend having a blood test done as soon as possible, and then we can discuss the appropriate next steps from there.

Thanks
