Hello Doctor,
I took two pregnancy tests two hours apart, and I can see two very faint lines on both. Normally, when I take a test and it’s negative, it stays negative, even after a day or two. But something told me to check the tests again in the trash after two hours, and I saw a faint ‘+’ on the first one. Both tests had a blue color, but on the second test, the blue was mostly at the corners. You could definitely see it if you looked closely. I’ve never had this happen before—usually, if it's negative, it stays negative with no lines appearing later. Could this mean I’m pregnant, or are these just evaporation lines?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. It’s possible that the faint lines you’re seeing are evaporation lines, which can appear after the test has dried. Pregnancy tests are most accurate when read within the time frame specified in the instructions, usually within a few minutes. If a test is left out for too long, it can sometimes show faint lines that are not a true positive result.
2. To get a clearer answer, you may want to take another test using a different brand, preferably a pink dye test, as they are often easier to interpret than blue dye tests. For the most reliable result, a blood test measuring HCG levels is recommended. A blood test can detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test and provide more accurate results. If you’re unsure or have irregular periods, it’s best to consult a doctor to discuss your symptoms and next steps.
