Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had oral sex on July 8th, and a few hours later, after brushing my teeth and eating, I used my own spit to masturbate (I know this sounds silly). Is there any chance I could be pregnant from this? Since then, I've taken seven pregnancy tests, and all have been negative. I also started birth control for my PCOS, and the day after I began taking it, I had a heavy one-day period. Could I still be pregnant despite the negative tests and the period? I'm really anxious about this and need some clarity.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Yes, pregnancy is possible if you have missed your periods entirely. While the scenario you described has an extremely low risk of pregnancy, it is important to consider other factors, such as the effectiveness of your birth control and potential irregularities caused by PCOS.

2. Birth control pills can sometimes cause lighter or shorter periods, which may explain the one-day heavy bleed you experienced. However, if you are concerned, I recommend getting examined and tested to rule out pregnancy, especially in case of birth control failure or a rare ectopic pregnancy. If you continue to have doubts or experience unusual symptoms, a visit to a healthcare provider can give you the reassurance and guidance you need.

Thanks
