Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m reaching out because my period is over a week late, and I have taken a pregnancy test, which came back negative. I’m feeling a bit worried as this is unusual for me, and I usually have a regular cycle. Are there any reasons why my period might be delayed like this, and what steps should I take next?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Given that your period is more than a week late and the pregnancy test has come back negative, I recommend waiting another week and then scheduling a pelvic ultrasound. This scan will help determine if you might be pregnant or if there are other conditions to consider, such as a molar pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy.

If the ultrasound results are normal and you’re still experiencing irregular periods, it would be a good idea to consult with a specialist. They can help identify the underlying causes of your irregular cycles and provide appropriate treatment options to help regulate your periods.

Thanks
