Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I'm 18 years old, and I started my first period in July. The morning after I had unprotected sex (I was 17 at the time), my period started and lasted for 7 days. However, I haven’t had another period since, and it’s been 3 months now. Is this normal, especially since it was my first period?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, it’s normal for periods to be irregular, especially when they first start. However, to be sure, I recommend taking a urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy. Additionally, an ultrasound may be needed to check for any underlying causes that could be affecting your menstrual cycle. It’s important to get these tests done for a clearer understanding of what might be going on.

Thanks
