Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Could the lack of growth in gestational sac diameter despite an increase in yolk sac size, along with the absence of a fetal pole or cardiac activity, indicate a blighted ovum in my 6-week pregnancy, despite my HCG levels being 9217 miu/ml?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Interpreting Ultrasound Findings:

1. The lack of significant change in gestational sac diameter over a 7-day period is concerning.

2. An increased yolk sac size without corresponding fetal pole development raises potential red flags.

Potential Concern: Blighted Ovum

1. The absence of a visible fetal pole or cardiac activity despite advancing gestational age may indicate a blighted ovum.

2. A blighted ovum occurs when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but doesn't develop into a viable embryo.

Thanks
