Hello Doctor,
I have had a swelling lump in my neck under the jaw on the right side for the past couple of years, accompanied by pain, low-grade fever, weight loss, nausea, and mild breathing difficulties. Two years ago, I went for a biopsy, but the doctor said I was too young to have any life-threatening issues related to lymph nodes or thyroids. Is there a type of specialist I can see? And what is usually the case when someone presents with these symptoms?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on your symptoms, it’s important to consult a specialist for a thorough evaluation. You may consider seeing an otolaryngologist (ENT specialist), a head and neck surgeon, or an oncologist to rule out potential malignancy. The two most likely conditions that could be causing these symptoms are non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which can be diagnosed or excluded through a lymph node or bone marrow biopsy, and submandibular lymphadenopathy, an infection-related condition that can be diagnosed through a complete blood count along with a clinical assessment. It's essential to consult a healthcare provider for the proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
