Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have metastatic cancer, and lately, I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain in my shoulder and legs. The pain feels deep and sometimes gets worse at night. Is this normal with metastasis, and what can I do to manage it better?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Metastatic cancer can often cause generalized aches and pains due to the spread of cancer to bones, nerves, or surrounding tissues. Pain management typically involves appropriate painkillers, such as NSAIDs or opioids, depending on the severity. If the pain is more focal or localized, further evaluation may be needed to determine the underlying cause, such as bone metastases, nerve compression, or inflammation.

2. Targeted treatments like radiation therapy, nerve blocks, or physical therapy may be necessary. It’s important to discuss your symptoms with a doctor to ensure the best pain management plan for your condition.

Thanks
