Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing hiccups for the last three days. Typically, when I get hiccups, they last only a few minutes or sometimes a bit longer. However, over the past few days, I've had hiccups about 4 or 5 times each day. Along with this, I've noticed a significant amount of acid in my mouth. What could be causing these symptoms, and do you think I should see a doctor?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

It is possible that you are experiencing hyperacidity or acid reflux. These conditions can lead to discomfort, including hiccups and a sour taste in your mouth.

To help manage your symptoms, I recommend incorporating regular exercise into your daily routine. Physical activity can enhance digestion and reduce stress, which may help alleviate your hiccups. Additionally, practices such as meditation and yoga can also be beneficial for managing stress and improving overall well-being.

It’s important to pay attention to your diet as well. I advise avoiding oily and spicy foods, as these can irritate your stomach and exacerbate symptoms of hyperacidity. Instead, consider focusing on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
