Hello Doctor,
I’ve never had cold sores or lesions. I decided to test for herpes during routine blood work, even though the doctor said it wasn’t necessary. My results show HSV-2 positive and HSV-1 positive IGG. How is this possible if I’ve never had symptoms?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Herpes infections can sometimes occur without visible symptoms. A positive IgG test indicates prior exposure to the virus. Rising IgG titers may signal an active infection that requires treatment. Untreated HSV can have long-term implications, such as increasing the risk of cervical cancer or potentially causing shingles flare-ups. Consult a specialist for guidance on follow-up tests and antiviral therapy.
