Hello Doctor,
I’ve been experiencing some issues with my erections. My penis gets hard but only stays erect for about 5 seconds, then it goes soft again. It gets hard again after a while, but I take a long time to ejaculate. I’m wondering if this could be erectile dysfunction. How do doctors diagnose ED? Is there a specific time an erection needs to last to be diagnosed? Should I get this checked, and are there any blood tests involved?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on your description, it could be helpful to consider a PDE-5 inhibitor medication, such as Viagra or Cialis, to see if it improves your symptoms. These medications are commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis.
2. However, they may not be suitable for everyone, especially if you have certain medical conditions like heart disease or are on specific medications.
3. It's important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you and to rule out any underlying causes of your symptoms. A thorough examination and possibly some tests, including blood tests, may be recommended to help with the diagnosis.
Thanks
