Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I messed up and punctured my prostate. I’m pretty sure I’m bleeding out of my ass, and I also noticed some blood in my urine briefly. I can still pee, but I’m worried if I need to get it checked out ASAP and if this is lethal.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It seems that you may have injured your prostate during a rectal exam or another procedure. Bleeding from the rectum and blood in the semen are common side effects after procedures like a prostate biopsy, and typically, this bleeding is minor and resolves on its own within a few days. Difficulty urinating can also occur, but it’s rare. Since you’re still able to urinate normally, this is a positive sign. While prostate procedures carry a small risk of infection, which may require antibiotic treatment, if you develop a fever, worsening pain, or any other signs of infection, you should seek medical attention promptly. Prostate cancer is rare in men under 40, so it’s unlikely that this is the cause of your symptoms. The most likely explanation is minor trauma to the prostate during the procedure. Although it’s always a good idea to have new symptoms evaluated by a doctor, the bleeding and urinary symptoms you're experiencing do not appear to be life-threatening. However, it’s advisable to make an appointment with your doctor to get properly checked out.

Thanks
