What to Do After Accidentally Using Nasorite in Ear?

Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Is it a matter of concern if I accidentally used nasorite (sodium chloride and benzalkonium chloride nasal solution) in my left ear for consecutive two days during the night, mistaking it for a nasal spray, and now experiencing heaviness, wetness, and mild pain in that ear? If so, what medication or ear drops should I use?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Pain Relief: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help alleviate mild pain.

Avoid Water Entry: Keep the affected ear dry to prevent exacerbating the discomfort.

Avoid Self-Medication: Refrain from using any ear drops or medications without proper medical advice.

Prevent Future Mistakes: Double-check labels and be cautious when using ear drops or nasal sprays to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Stop Using Nasorite in the Ear: Immediately discontinue using nasorite in your ear to prevent further irritation.

Thanks
