Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My wife was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH), and she has started treatment. I am concerned about whether this condition is contagious. Can I have intercourse with my wife, or is there any risk of transmission?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

No, Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) is not a contagious disease. It is an autoimmune condition, meaning the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the liver, but it does not spread from person to person. You can have intercourse with your wife without any risk of transmission. However, if she is experiencing fatigue or discomfort due to her condition or treatment, it’s important to be mindful of her health and well-being.

Thanks
