Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

After undergoing a C-section delivery, what are the most highly recommended contraceptive options available?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The contraceptive implant, with an effectiveness of over 99%, the contraceptive injection, with an effectiveness of over 99%, and the progestogen-only pill, with an effectiveness of 99% if taken correctly, are options for birth control. However, we advise waiting at least six weeks after a c-section before engaging in sexual activity. Additionally, it is generally recommended to use birth control until six to 18 months after giving birth.

Thanks
