Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 21-year-old female and was diagnosed with fibroadenomas in both of my breasts in August 2023. I’m considering starting birth control, specifically Lady Pills. Is it safe for me to take them given my diagnosis, or should I be cautious?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s generally advisable to avoid hormonal birth control like Lady Pills if you have fibroadenomas, as hormones can sometimes affect breast tissue. I would recommend considering a non-hormonal option, such as an intrauterine device (IUD), which may be a safer alternative for you. However, it's important to discuss this with your gynecologist or healthcare provider to determine the best option based on your specific health needs.

Thanks
