Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I started birth control on December 24 after getting my IUD removed a few weeks prior. Right now, I have 5 days left of my current pack before reaching the placebo pills, but I just got my period. Should I start my next pack after finishing this one, or should I finish my current pack first?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It's important to know which brand of birth control you're using, as there are many different options with varying combinations of estrogen and progesterone. I recommend reading the instructions that came with your specific pack to get the most accurate guidance. In general, it's safest to start your new pack on time after finishing your current one. However, please make sure to follow the specific instructions for your birth control brand to ensure you are using it correctly.

Thanks
