Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been on Depo-Provera for a while, and I haven’t had my period. I’d like to get my cycle back. Can I take a different form of birth control, like the pill or the patch, while still on Depo to help regulate my period? Would this be safe, and would it actually work to bring my cycle back?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, you can take another form of birth control while on Depo-Provera, but consult a healthcare provider first. Adding a combined pill (with estrogen) may help regulate your cycle, but results vary. It may take time, and side effects like spotting or headaches can occur. If your goal is to conceive or restore your cycle, your doctor may suggest stopping Depo instead.

Thanks
