Hello Doctor,
My baby is 8 months old and has been having watery loose motion for the past 1 month. It happens multiple times a day, and the stools are mostly liquid. The baby is active but sometimes seems fussy. There is no fever, but I am worried about dehydration. We have tried changing the diet, but there is no improvement. What could be the reason, and what should we do?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Watery loose stools in an 8-month-old baby persisting for a month could be due to multiple reasons, including food intolerance, infections, or digestive issues. At this age, introducing new foods can sometimes trigger intolerance, leading to prolonged diarrhea. Other possible causes include viral or bacterial infections, malabsorption disorders, or even prolonged antibiotic use.
2. It’s essential to monitor the baby for signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth, fewer wet diapers, or lethargy. Ensure the baby stays hydrated with oral rehydration solutions and continues breastfeeding or formula feeding as appropriate.
Thanks
