Hello Doctor,
I’ve noticed skin scabs appearing all over my body, and there’s one that’s bigger on my hand. It also has tiny scabs inside it. I’m worried about what might be causing this and what I should do to treat it.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on the symptoms you've described, it sounds like it could be psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition where the immune system causes skin cells to build up quickly, forming scaly patches or scabs. These patches are often red, inflamed, and covered with silvery scales, but they can also vary in appearance. It's not unusual for psoriasis to appear in patches on different parts of the body, including the hands. The tiny scabs inside the larger one could be an indication of irritation or scaling, which is common in psoriasis flare-ups.
2. However, it's important to note that other conditions, like eczema or infections, can also cause scabs and lesions on the skin. I recommend seeing a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. In the meantime, avoid scratching the scabs, as this can worsen the condition. Topical treatments like corticosteroids or moisturizers can help manage symptoms, but a dermatologist will be able to provide the best advice for your situation.
