Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing redness due to the use of Hyderquin Plus cream. I initially used it to treat acne marks and hyperpigmentation, but now I'm left with red patches. Will this redness go away on its own, or do I need to be concerned about any consequences?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

I understand your concern regarding the redness caused by the Hyderquin Plus cream. This cream contains Hydroquinone, a potent skin-lightening agent, which can sometimes lead to skin irritation and redness, particularly in individuals with sensitive skin. The redness you're experiencing may indeed be a reaction to the cream. If you've discontinued its use and the redness persists, it's crucial to seek professional medical attention.

In most cases, once the offending agent is removed and the skin is allowed to heal, the redness should gradually subside. However, the duration for this to happen may vary depending on the severity of the irritation and your skin's natural healing process. In the meantime, it's important to avoid using any harsh skin products and to protect the affected area from sun exposure, as sunlight can worsen the redness.

You can also help soothe the redness by using a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer. Additionally, consider using an over-the-counter cream containing soothing ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile.

I recommend scheduling an appointment at your earliest convenience so we can assess your skin condition more thoroughly and determine the most appropriate course of action. It's essential to refrain from self-medication, as this may further aggravate the issue.

Thanks
