Hello Doctor,
I experienced a burn yesterday when hot oil splashed on my arm while I was cooking. Now, I’m feeling a burning sensation in the affected area, and I’ve developed a blister where the oil touched my skin. I’m unsure about how to care for it and what steps I should take to promote healing. Could you please provide guidance on how to treat this burn and any signs I should watch for that might indicate a more serious issue?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
For your burn, please follow these steps:
Clean the Area: Gently wash the burn with mild soap and cool water.
Apply Treatment: Use Fucidic acid cream on the burn to prevent infection. If the blister has burst, allow it to dry before applying the cream.
Take Medications:
Velocef (Cefalexin) as prescribed for infection prevention.
Brufen (Ibuprofen) for pain relief, as needed for up to 7 days.
Monitor for Infection: Watch for increased redness, swelling, pus, or fever. If any occur, seek medical attention.
Follow-Up: If healing does not progress in a week or you have concerns, schedule a follow-up.
Thanks
