Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have been dealing with mild acne since I was 15, and I am now 20 years old. I was prescribed Adapalene in October 2023 and used it consistently until June. After that, I switched to Epiduo (benzoyl peroxide/adapalene), but my skin hasn’t completely cleared up yet. How long should I continue using Epiduo, and will my acne return once I stop using it? Also, can you recommend any cleansers or moisturizers that are suitable for acne-prone skin?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Acne is common until around 30. Epiduo can be used long-term, but avoid it if pregnant. If acne persists, consult your doctor about oral retinoids, antibiotics, or hormonal treatments like certain birth control pills. For skincare, use non-comedogenic products like Avène or CeraVe cleansers and lightweight, oil-free moisturizers. If your acne doesn’t improve, consider seeing a dermatologist for further options.

Thanks
