Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m experiencing some troubling symptoms and I’m unsure if I have a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection. I have rare itching, a smelly white to light yellow discharge, and I feel a burning sensation when I urinate, with a little blood on the tissue. I’d appreciate your guidance on what might be causing this and what steps I should take.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your symptoms, it looks like you have a combination of both a yeast infection and a urinary tract infection (UTI). The yellow tint to the discharge, along with the burning sensation during urination and the presence of blood, indicates that there could be infections in both areas.

To confirm the diagnosis, laboratory tests such as a urinalysis or a culture of the discharge can be very helpful. However, if you’re looking for relief right away, we can initiate treatment based on your symptoms.

Antibiotics: If a UTI is confirmed or suspected, antibiotics will help clear the infection.

Oral Antifungals or Vaginal Pessaries: If a yeast infection is suspected, antifungal medication can be effective.

It’s essential to follow the treatment plan and monitor your symptoms closely. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after starting treatment, I recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment for further evaluation.

Thanks
