Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

What could be the possible causes of my left-sided non-pulsatile tinnitus, brain noise, lightheadedness, headache, difficulty concentrating, head pressure, "buff" sound in my left ear, occasional feeling of water in my left ear, eye pressure, unbalanced feeling, faintness, and frequent nightmares? I have been experiencing these symptoms for at least three days a week over the past 18 months. I have consulted an ENT specialist and a neurologist and undergone a brain MRI without contrast in December, which showed no abnormalities. The prescribed medication is amitriptyline, but I have concerns about taking it. Doctors, please provide me with some solutions as I am desperate for help and struggling with the quality of my life.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Amitriptyline is generally an effective medication and worth considering as a treatment option. I also suggest scheduling a fundoscopic examination with an ophthalmologist to evaluate your eyes. If you are overweight, focusing on weight loss until your BMI is below 23 may be beneficial. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks
