Hello Doctor,
Can I have my deeply pitted tonsils removed? The constant formation of tonsil stones is greatly affecting my life, impacting my sense of taste and causing worry about bad breath. Despite following doctors' advice to drink more water or brush more, the situation is worsening. Two weeks ago, I experienced bleeding tonsils, but urgent care said I had to wait for them to heal and would not remove my tonsils unless I had frequent infections. Is there anyone else who can assist me?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Recurrent Tonsil Stone Formation or Infections:
Recurrent tonsil stones or frequent throat infections may indicate the need for tonsil removal (tonsillectomy).
Dietary Recommendations:
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration.
Limit intake of spicy, oily, and fried foods.
Reduce consumption of cold water and beverages.
Oral Hygiene:
Rinse with a diluted betadine mouth gargle three times a day for five days.
This can help maintain oral hygiene and reduce the risk of infections.
Thanks
