Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing pain in the area where both of my kidneys are located. It feels like a dull ache, and sometimes it’s sharp. I’m concerned because it’s been happening for a few days now. Could this be a sign of a kidney issue, or should I be worried about something else?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

1. Back pain in the area where the kidneys are located, which is typically under the ribcage on either side of the spine, can sometimes be caused by kidney issues such as kidney stones or a kidney infection.

2. It’s important to note that the kidneys are located close to the back muscles, so pain in this region can sometimes be confused with general back pain. If you're experiencing any additional symptoms, such as fever, nausea, or changes in urination, it's important to seek medical attention right away. A thorough evaluation, including possibly some imaging tests, can help determine the cause of your pain and guide appropriate treatment.

Thanks
