Hello Doctor,
I’ve noticed some small lesions on my gums that have been there for about two weeks. They don’t hurt, and I haven’t had any other symptoms, no bleeding, swelling, or anything like that. I do have a history of HPV, so I’m a little concerned and wondering if it might be related. Could you please give me your opinion on what this might be and whether I should be worried or get it checked further?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.
Knowing whether you're taking any medications is important because certain drugs can affect your gums or cause lesions, even if they’re painless. Some common medications, like those for high blood pressure, seizures, or after organ transplants, can cause gum changes. Others may weaken the immune system or cause dry mouth, which can also lead to oral lesions. Since you mentioned a history of HPV, it’s also possible that the lesions could be related to that, but it’s best not to assume without more details. Lesions that last more than two weeks, even if they’re painless, should be looked into.
Thanks
