Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently started taking multivitamins. I only take one a day though, instead of the three that they recommend. Specifically, I have been taking this one. Normally, it takes me around 30 minutes to fall asleep. However, for the past four days that I have been taking this multivitamin, I have been restless at night and it has been taking me 2+ hours to sleep. Could it be the cause, or should I be taking all three?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Multivitamins are supplements, that are most beneficial for individuals who aren't getting enough vitamins from their diet, or for those who may be unwell or physically unfit.

If you're generally healthy and already receiving adequate nutrition, taking multivitamins could potentially disrupt normal bodily functions, including sleep patterns.

To minimize any potential impact on your sleep, you could try taking your multivitamin in the morning rather than at night.

Additionally, regular physical activity can help use up any excess energy, which may prevent the multivitamin from interfering with your sleep.

If the problem persists, it might be worth discussing with your healthcare provider to ensure the multivitamin is right for you.

Thanks
