Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I applied some medical gels on my face to treat muscle strain and inflammation in the jaw muscle. After nearly two months of stopping those medicines, a part of my skin color turned whiter. I used Tacrolimus for about 4 months, applying it once daily at night. Generally, some parts of my skin have restored their color, while others have not yet, though they seem to have turned a little rosy. I'm not sure what I should do now. Can you help?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. It seems that you may be experiencing chemical-induced hypopigmentation, which can occur after the use of certain topical medications. The recovery will depend on the depth of the affected skin areas.

2. I would recommend using Elocon cream on the affected areas only for five consecutive days. After that, apply it once a week for the following month.

3. Please be cautious, as Elocon is a steroid, so avoid overusing it, and discontinue it after one month. Hopefully, this approach will help your skin regain its natural color. However, if you do not see improvement or if you have concerns, I would advise consulting with a dermatologist for further evaluation.

Thanks
