Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been dealing with a fungal infection, possibly ringworm, under my private parts and thighs for about a month now. Can you suggest a treatment or medication to help clear this up?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Intertrigo vs. Fungal Infection:

Intertrigo: Caused by friction and moisture, leading to red, irritated skin in skin folds.

Fungal Infection: Caused by fungal overgrowth, presenting as red, circular patches with raised edges.

Treatment for Fungal Infection:

Oral Medications: Griseofulvin, itraconazole, or terbinafine to eradicate widespread or resistant infections.

Topical Antifungal Cream: Miconazole cream to kill the fungus and reduce symptoms.

Differentiating Diagnosis:

Importance: Accurate diagnosis is crucial for proper treatment.

Treatment Approaches: Intertrigo is managed with dryness and barrier creams, while fungal infections require antifungal medications.

Thanks
