Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve noticed small pits forming under my foot, and there's a strong, unpleasant smell. It feels like pitted keratolysis. Could this be what I have, and what are the treatment options?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. It sounds like you might have pitted keratolysis, which is often caused by bacteria that thrive in moist conditions. If your feet tend to stay wet, it's important to dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes.

2. I would recommend using Fucidin cream for its antibacterial properties, along with Daktarin cream to help control fungal growth. Apply these twice daily (BD). Additionally, taking Erythromycin 500 mg tablets three times a day (TDS) for 10 days can help treat the infection systemically. Make sure to follow the treatment plan, and if symptoms persist, follow up with your healthcare provider.

Thanks
