Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been on doxycycline for chronic acne for 13 days and developed a yeast infection under my foreskin. It’s not bothering me much, but it's full of white yeast. Should I stop doxycycline? I see my dermatologist in 4 days, but I stopped doxycycline today and started using Canesten. What should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. I’d recommend continuing to apply Canesten cream locally to treat the yeast infection. You may also consider taking probiotics orally (per os) to help restore the natural balance of bacteria in your body.

2. If the skin changes worsen or don’t improve, mycologic testing is necessary to properly diagnose the infection. Additionally, it’s advisable to have your blood sugar levels checked, as elevated blood sugar can sometimes contribute to yeast infections.

Thanks
