Patient Question
I was just curious if boils can cause skin erosions and if they go away on their own. Also, is there a reason why I get boils frequently?
Answered by Dr. Aditya Favade
Boils often occur due to an infection with the bacteria S. aureus, which people commonly call a staph infection. Some staph infections develop into abscesses and can become serious very quickly. This germ can be present on normal skin and enters the body through tiny breaks in the skin or by traveling down a hair to the follicle. This means you may have staph bacteria living on your skin or inside your nose. There's no need to worry. A complete medical history is required.
