Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I'm experiencing a skin allergy reaction to benzoyl peroxide, which has caused swelling on my face. Can you please advise me on how to manage this?

Answered by Dr. Ibrahim Nafee

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Stop using benzoyl peroxide immediately to avoid worsening the allergic reaction.

2. Apply Fucidin H cream twice daily to the affected area to reduce inflammation and treat any infection.

3. Continue using the cream for a week for optimal results.

Additional Advice:

1. Avoid any other products containing benzoyl peroxide.

2. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin.

3. Consider using cold compresses to reduce swelling and discomfort.

If there is blistering, severe itching, or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical attention.

Thanks
