Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

On December 22, I was diagnosed with a nodule on my scrotum when I visited a urologist, who said it was a bacterial infection and recommended Neosporin and Doxt-SL. After a week, I found the treatment ineffective as pus started coming from the nodule. On January 2, I consulted a dermatologist who diagnosed me with nodular scabies and prescribed Zeroscab plus HHFudic cream. By then, another 4-5 nodules appeared on my scrotum. After three sessions of permethrin cream, I visited him again, and this time, he recommended Zempred 16 mg and Tenovate cream. However, two nodules are still present. What should I do next?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the response to your query below.

I am sorry to hear about your experience with nodular scabies and the challenges you’ve faced during previous visits to healthcare professionals. It’s not uncommon for skin conditions to be misdiagnosed initially, and it’s crucial to persist with medical care until a suitable treatment is found.

You have been prescribed various topical and oral medications for nodular scabies, yet it seems some nodules remain unresponsive to treatment. This could stem from factors such as antibiotic resistance or improper medication use. I recommend scheduling an appointment with me to explore further treatment options. A stronger or alternative medication might be necessary to address the remaining nodules. Additionally, maintaining proper hygiene and refraining from sharing personal items, like towels or clothing, is essential in preventing scabies spread.

I hope this guidance is helpful, and I wish you a swift recovery.

Thanks
